Crimp top 1.5 mL capacity Wide opening 1.5 mL wide opening crimp top high recovery vials have a 30 µL reservoir. High recovery glass vials are for sample concentration and injection without transferring to microvolume inserts.
To accommodate the decreased sample volume, chromatographers need to use HPLC vials which have inserts in them (as in Figure 1) so that small samples can be reproducibly injected into an HPLC system. Even though the amount of sample available for chromatography is reduced, the sample still needs to be filtered to ensure that it is particle-free
Short thread vials have a wide opening (6.0 mm ID) with a unique thread design that allows you to screw on the caps and still use them in a robotic autosampler. The thread sits much higher on the vial allowing space between the bottom of the thread and the shoulder of the vial.

The dimensions for 12x32mm vials are standard between manufacturers but the length of the neck and width/shape of the vial shoulder may vary. 12x32mm microvials have the same outer dimensions but the inside of the vial may be tapered to reduce volume or contain a fused insert. 12x32mm high recovery vials will have an internal conical bottom
The stopper is placed on top of the vial and is ultimately seated in the lyophilizer. As a result the contents of the vial are subject to contamination until they are actually sealed.
